The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division will recognize National Fishing and Boating Week on June 4-12.
In the spirit of encouraging participation in fishing, Georgia will offer two free fishing days: Saturday, June 4 and Saturday, June 11. On these days, Georgia residents do not need a fishing license or a trout license in order to fish. Residents can fish on any public waters in the state including lakes, streams, ponds and public fishing areas.

JUNE 9, 23
The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services will host family fishing on Thursday, June 9 and Thursday, June 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
The program is for all ages and takes place in the hidden Claypit Pond. Bait, poles and tips will be provided.
The fee for each session is $6 for Athens-Clarke County families and $9 for non-county families.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division will hold a June 14 public hearing to receive comment on a proposed hunting amendment (to Rule 391-4-2-.71, Federal Wildlife Areas) that would modify the season for pursuit of bears with dogs for training purposes on the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Members of the general public will have an opportunity to provide input at the hearing, which will be held Tuesday, June 14 at 7 p.m. at White County High School in Cleveland (2600 Highway 129 North).
Any participant may present data, make a statement or comment or offer a viewpoint or argument, either orally or in writing. Statements should be concise to permit everyone an opportunity to speak. Those unable to attend may submit comments electronically at gohuntgeorgia.com (select "hunting," "hunting regulations," then "submitting comments re hunting regulations") or by mail prior to close of business on June 24. Mail written statements to: Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division/Game Management Section; Attn: John W. Bowers; 2070 U.S. Highway 278, SE; Social Circle, Ga.; 30025.
The Board of Natural Resources will consider the proposed amendment and any comments received during the public hearing process on June 29 at 9 a.m. at the DNR Boardroom (2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE; Suite 1252; Atlanta, Ga.

JUNE-AUGUST
The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services hosts a Naturalist's Walk monthly through August at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
Nature Center naturalists will lead a hike around the property in search of seasonal happenings. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera and binoculars. The program takes place Saturdays: June 18, July 2 and 16, August 6 and 20 from 10-11 a.m.
The free program is for all ages. Registration is not required.

JUNE-AUGUST
The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services will host "Nature's Trading Post" on Saturdays, June 18, July 16 and August 20 from 11 a.m.-noon at the ENSAT Center at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
The community is invited to trade the one or two objects they have found in nature for points or other nature objects in the nature center's collection.
The program is free and open to all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

JUNE
In cooperation with the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, Smithgall Woods Conservation Park in Helen will offer an eight-week training course in conservation and wildlife issues relevant to our Southern Blue Ridge ecoregion.
The courses will be held on Mondays, June 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Registration fee of $190, by May 20, pays for the series and certification as a "Georgia Master Naturalist through UGA.
There is also a $5 parking fee at the park.
